This page is an archive of newsposts in the "wysoom" newsgroup because the ingame news archive only reaches a few months back. It might not always be up to date, but newsposts should be copied over here before they fall out of the archive in the mud itself.

Historians and antiquarians alike have often speculated as to the fate of
the once-substantial infrastructure that supported the legendary energy
grid of Atlantis. Recently, reports of a structure of possible Atlantean
origin have been filed by members of the Antiquarian Society living among
the natives of Tohunga. Prevented by religious taboo from entering the
structure, and wishing to maintain their reputation with the Tohungan
people, those antiquarians seek assistance from others of their trade to
investigate the exciting find.

Word has spread of a powerful group of psychics and ascetics gathering on
Wysoom from every planet to follow an enigmatic leader who is rumored to be
the chosen savior of psionics. This group, this Gemstone Order, as they
call themselves, has set up an enclave atop the high hills of the Wysoomian
mainland.
It is said that the Order is peaceful and harmless, but intrusions into
their fold being met with terrible aggression, along with a movement to
collect valuable gems for psionic focus at all costs have shown the group's
concerted strength to be formidable and rapidly growing. Their intentions
for anything other than enslaving the mindless geocairns to aid in their
quest for gems is unclear to outsiders, though many fear their rising power
through both wealth and sheer numbers could give way to political upheaval
if they so chose.
Even now some suspect that the leader of this group may be exerting
influence across worlds, as rogues, bandits, and mercenaries making attacks
upon specific targets in the way of the Order's progress have shown up time
and again with pockets full of gems. Naturally, these incidents have
garnered the attention of adventurers of all kinds with interest in either
aiding or hindering the Gemstone Order.
The Storm Shield has been updated. Among the changes you'll notice include
that the special attacks now show damage numbers and affect the wielder's
dpr. Some of the power and proc rates of certain effects have been tweaked
in order to put the special attack's potency better in line with the power
that was alotted to it.

Certain battle axes, found on Wysoom, should no longer have a one-handed
weight for size 72 characters in excess of 30 kgs.
-Kereth Midknight
The warhawk clan leather helm and the warhawk clan winged helm should both
have weights more befitting their slots/bulk.

The newbie-gates on Wysoom should now determine whether a given person can
enter them based on that individual's level, not the level of the person
who entered the movement command. High level parties can no longer use the
newbie transport by having a newbie lead them through it.

Ordering a minion to climb a certain rope should no longer result in a
sensitive mind error and the minion failing to actually climb.

Others will now notice you doing that thing you do in the pyramid.
Wxyz
ps Always keep doing that thing you do to me.
The blue-steel plate should have a non-zero wc in the future. A small tweak
was made to its other stats to accommodate this.

Glass-walled and/or ceilinged sections of Rhea Station should now be
affected by changes in daylight levels outside but not be valid locations
to forage for food and dig for minerals, rather than the other way around.

The regail tail band did not have a weight set, resulting in being the
default 50 kgs at size 72. This has been fixed. It's a tail band, not a
full body lead casing.

A'ama should be at least slightly better dressed in the future.

Baba Yaga should no longer go places without her ride.

The firebrother spirits should be less empty handed in the future.

While already armed and bejeweled, Crell has, at least, consented to cover
his naughty bits.

Certain prostitutes had "clothing [they were] almost wearing," as a matter
of job description. After a failed union exercise, however, the previous
definition of "almost," by which the individuals in question "almost"
decided to put them on before changing their mind and leaving them at home,
has been found insufficient. The lone clothing item must henceforth be
brought to work with them, where it may be "almost" worn to whatever degree
the individual deems appropriate.

Some animals are the right kind of animal, some portals match the level
locks of their destinations correctly, and some thingies are less loudly
unusual about how they get in people's way.

Certain spirits somewhere on Wysoom should now count as undead for purposes
of skills and spells that care about such. Note that these spirits are
still not "undead" in the general sense of being mindless zombies, and they
still will not be subject to some of the more general "undead" features you
may be familiar with.

The outdoor area between the Tohungamoko huts was trying to actually be
outside but failing at it. It should no longer fail at it.

Trying to use a certain magic portal before anyone has visited the room it
leads to earlier in that same boot should no longer result in a sensitive
mind error.
-Kereth Midknight
Hector should now have more practical standards for determining who is and
is not a hoplite.

Being able to remove a certain thing in a certain place should no longer
prevent you from removing other things, just because you happen to be in
that place.

A certain amulet was showing up as "Amulet of Eclipse" in the
room/inventory/etc, but as "Amulet of the Eclipse" in numerous messages,
while only the latter was a valid target. The amulet should be corrected
now so that the name "Amulet of the Eclipse" should show consistently in
all cases and various targets, such as "amulet of eclipse" and "eclipse
amulet" should now be accepted when trying to interact with it.

A few rooms in or around the Citadel of Justice were outdoors but without a
valid terrain setting (most rooms had it, but not all). This has now been
corrected. All outdoor rooms in that area should have valid terrain
settings applied.

The book in the abjurer shrine ('l book') should no longer prompt the user
with incorect syntax, telling them to 'read book' when the command it means
is 'read leader'.

There should no longer be numerous creatures in a certain area on Wysoom
with the race of "phylum." Given the notes left behind by the original
coder, I think they just badly misread a classification table.
