This page is an archive of newsposts in the "crypt" newsgroup because the ingame news archive only reaches a few months back. It might not always be up to date, but newsposts should be copied over here before they fall out of the archive in the mud itself.

The planet of Crypt recently suffered a tremendous earthquake that opened
up many new passages through the core of the world. Today, it was hit by an
aftershock which broke through into a smaller cavern. Early reports from
the site of the disaster indicate that this may not have been an entirely
natural occurrence- the quake has revealed a pair of tremendous gates that
lead deeper into the world. Unsubstantiated rumors blame the disaster on
stunted, bearded creatures- there were no direct sightings, but several
early investigators saw such shapes in the steamy cavern beyond the open
gates.

Hey, I just realized:
We need a help update on 'help crypt' or help planets or whatever to
account for the city of vulcan.
The submission that's used gets PE. Thanks in advance!

Couple of fixes to the necrogm area and eq:

#1 Above the Master's Sanctum now correctly requires flight
    (you're in the air)
#2 Animated chunks of gore (from you or otherwise) will now stay
    put, even in flight-required rooms
#3 Bonesaw's name should change properly when wielded as a result
of the "wield all" command. (at boot)

The growing success of the Necromantic College
has resulted in an increase of activity to
certain parts of the planet Crypt.
There have recently been rumors about enhancements
made to the strange malachite tower used by
the mysterious Deathmaster guild. Few have
ventured to see it, and even fewer have returned.

Special Note: Deathmaster is a necromancer secondary
and, though it is an active guild, is part of the
necromancer testing currently underway. New rooms have
been added to the guild hall which is the point of
this news announcement.

Adventurers on their way to the Necromantic College
have taken notice of a soft glow coming from a
crude-looking cavern along their journey. At initial glance
it appears unauspicious but is worthy of note nonetheless.

Special Note: Puppet Master is a necromancer secondary
and, though it is an active guild, is part of the
necromancer testing currently underway. New rooms have
been added for the guild hall which is the point of
this news announcement.

Items in the Borales Mansion had their values overridden manually,
typically using what may have been an older loot value formula, may have
been arbitrary, or may in some cases have been the result of copy/pasting.
I'm not sure which. While these items, on cursory inspection, seem to have
been as powerful as they ought to have been, their shop values were often
extremely diminished as a result of this override.

Lacking any indication that this was in any way an intent of the design,
the overrides have now been removed, and the treasure obtained from the
area should be significantly more valuable.

-Kereth Midknight

The crown of rulership should now have a weight more befitting being a gold
and platinum crown.

-Kereth Midknight

Ferdinand got out of the city again. Turns out, telling him to turn around
if he stepped outside did no good, since he's not actually allowed back in
at that point. He should now turn around -before- leaving the city.

This is, of course, assuming he's not getting out some other way than by
the main gate. In all my tests, I've been unable to get him to even enter
gate plaza, let alone cross it. Let me know if this happens again, or if
someone knows of some other exit to the city that I've forgotten.

-Kereth Midknight

Numerous special residents of Igneous should now know to keep their hands
off other people's stuff, if they see it lying around. Likewise, the gate
guards are now actually skeletons, rather than .'s pretending to be
skeletons.

-Kereth Midknight

The GID special info on a pair of dual rotating-chamber thundersticks
should now actually be accurate. To be clear, this has not been a change to
the text, just a fix to make the existing claim actually be true.

-Kereth Midknight

Geevus will now greet guests with a little more class and a little less
nudity.

Kenkle has been instructed to put some freaking pants on while he cooks.

Various other residents of the Borales Mansion have begun carrying a little
more something around with them, in order to show off their wealth and
social standing.

-Kereth Midknight

In a gesture of unprecedented magnanimity, the master of the Borales
Mansion has made a degree: the slaves and servants in the mansion should
also be permitted to dress themselves fully from this time forth, at least
within the limits of official standards (shoes are out of the question, for
example, while women's skirts are not permitted to reach the knee, unless
they're puddings or argus).

Likewise, in what may be a related turn of events, the master of the
mansion has finally admitted the fact that he does, in fact, have male
slaves. In fact, they were all male, but house rules had required they be
referred to as "slave women." From henceforth, slave men may be referred to
as such, while additional female slaves have been brought in, so somebody
can fill all these female slave outfits he's bought so many of.

Weston, who was late in line getting his hands on some of the recently
distributed wealth that was passing around the household, should now
similarly have one of those little somethings to show his status.

-Kereth Midknight

The kama was the subject of a stealth mod on its unpaired special some time
back, when it was observed that specials like the ryuken's, taken to their
logical extreme, might not quite be on par with other specials of their
level (indeed, that the ryuken might be a bit potent for such a low level
item). Specials of this type are under review, but for the moment, the kama
special has been given a more stable function for the time being.

It should no longer drain sp well into the negative, and the cost has been
adjusted slightly.

-Kereth Midknight

With some final tweaks to a monocle and a set of body armor, work on
Borales Mansion is now complete. Rewards for the area should now be
properly in sync with the difficulty.

-Kereth Midknight

General Krpana should not, for purposes of the effects of his death or any
other relevant checks, act under the belief that he is the only one left
alive of his little companionship, regardless of how confusing his
partner's unliving status may be for some in this respect.

-Kereth Midknight

The kama, kusari-fundo and kusarigama should now show appropriate tags in
their long description when relevant (such as the glow from the sticky
weapon spell).

-Kereth Midknight

The "wide arc" special on the kusarigama should no longer give double
messages to the wielder and none to anyone else.

-Kereth Midknight

At least two bedrooms and one closet in the Borales Mansion were set as
being outdoors, presumably on the basis that they had rock walls, and crypt
is mostly being underground with rock walls.

This does not count. By the time you cut a neat square-shaped room out of
the rock face, clean it out, cover the walls with black or red paint
(depending on which room we're talking about) and load it with furniture,
it has long since stopped being "outdoors." The rooms have been adjusted
accordingly.

-Kereth Midknight

Citizens of the Bone Court were failing to properly employ some of their
more obscure forms of individual knowledge. This has been corrected.

-Kereth Midknight

Gnomeslayer should now count as a named weapon for effects that care about
such.

-Kereth Midknight

Koboldsbane should now count as a named weapon for effects that care about
such.

-Kereth Midknight

Peeking out from a crate used a nonstandard form of peering, giving a list
of all living things outside, bypassing all forms of hiding and
invisibility, light level checks, etc, while leaving people inside a crate
unable to see objects on the ground through any method other than using
skills (it was still possible to "peer out" to try to view what room the
crate was in).

This has been corrected so that peeking from inside a crate will result in
the same message that would be seen by using "look" from the outside room.
This will now unfortunatey show a view of the crate one is currently hiding
in, but it should no longer provide general vision bypasses or even (horror
of horrors!) a way around wiz invisibility.

-Kereth Midknight

A massive silver gate leading north (locked) had a typo in the name of the
room it was set to lead to, resulting in a sensitive mind error whenever
anyone tried to open it. This has been corrected.

-Kereth Midknight

The dual rotating-chamber thundersticks have had their melee hit and
(possibly not showing up in GID? I don't remember if I fixed that or not
yet) melee damage bonuses converted to a ranged hit bonus.

-Kereth Midknight

The wormsleeves have had their weight updated to better reflect their
slots/bulk.

-Kereth Midknight

The skin guards should now have a weight more befitting their slots/bulk.

-Kereth Midknight

The adamantine necklace should now have a weight more befitting its
slots/bulk.

-Kereth Midknight

The custom magic aura (visible with 'see magic') for the Wormtooth has been
disabled.

-Kereth Midknight

The dual rotating chamber thundersticks should no longer cause wielders to
use HB on death if the death directly results from their firing a shot
(such as firing into a refect or literally shooting themselves).

Users who do accidentally shoot themselves for any reason should no longer
look for openings to do it again.

-Kereth Midknight

General Krpana and Ambassador Khetah should no longer sometimes direct
emotes toward players in the room that were meant for one another.

-Kereth Midknight

The rusty scythe has been updated. Its special attacks should now show
damage numbers and influence the wielder's dpr. Special messages should now
wrap and handle colors better. Some very minor irregularities in the items
stats have been ironed out, resulting in a slight rebalancing of power from
one area to another.

-Kereth Midknight

At player request, the following items are now threadable (I'm not sure how
I missed having them be to begin with):

Inks
Waxes

-Kereth Midknight

Drow Blackguards should no longer actively try to block people from going
in directions that are not possible for them to go in to begin with. If
there's somewhere around they don't want you to go, however, they might
still interfere with your attempts to go there.

-Kereth Midknight

For those who keep repping it just in case, the Temple of Unuok DOES give
lq credit to any and all party members involved, not just one of them. That
said, the fix for this caused it to give one message to the city for each
such party member, rather than just having one message flash around. This
has now been corrected. Completing the quest should be a bit less spammy in
the future.

-Kereth Midknight

The stress balls should no longer reference fists in their activation
messages, since some people don't have them.

-Kereth Midknight

The Danowyr Army area on Crypt has been updated. It has lost it's minimum
level lock and it's max party lock. It's boss fight has been toughened to
compensate. Enjoy!

The special attacks from a tall oak staff should now show damage numbers
and affect dpr. They should also wrap better, have fewer typos, etc. Stats
have been reviewed and tweaked very slightly.

-Kereth Midknight

Blynken's amulet should now have a weight more befitting its slots/bulk.

-Kereth Midknight

In an effort to keep their exact natures unidentifiable, and thus help them
to be more intimidating, Xykon created his skeleton guards exclusively by
animating the bodies of manatees that had been exposed to radiation in the
womb and thus suffered severe birth defects. Unfortunately, this was
severely limiting their effectiveness in a few ways and, more
significantly, wasting the money he spent buying all that nice chainmail
for them, since their bodies were completely the wrong shape for it.

Fed up with the intense investment of time and limited results, he has
decided to settle for suitably nondescript varieties of humanoid in
producing further skeleton guards.

-Kereth Midknight

An unexpected override in mob alignment code was causing General Palos to
have a random alignment, leaning towards slightly flappy, when she was
supposed to be squarely "inconsiderate." This has been corrected.

While testing, I accidentally caused Bone Court quest status to advance to
a late stage. Fortunately I was able to continue fast forwarding before
anybody important got hurt, but my apologies if you explore the area this
boot and find parts of it in a post-quest condition.

-Kereth Midknight

Several of the children in Utopia were either neuter or male, depending on
what aspect of their behavior you were paying attention to. They should now
be a mix of genders without internal contradictions or deviation from their
race standard.

-Kereth Midknight

Certain individuals who are trying to pretend to be something they're not
should no longer give themselves away by holding grudges over things done
to people they're pretending not to be friends with.

-Kereth Midknight

Jebediah Springster has been given a little more responsibility and trust
after his long years of service in the Gnomevale Guard. This new trust has
made him just a little bit more chatty and a lot more helpful.

A little something that was made for the Gnomevale area but somehow got
ommitted during implementation should now be available.

-Kereth Midknight

A fine silver ring from the Danowyr army area has been changed from bulk 1
to bulk 0.

-Rita

Ballach and the Autognome Factory should now have up-to-date areacheck
data. Also, a certain "myconid" should now correctly register as a
"myconoid."

-Kereth Midknight

The argus caves, boelir and borales mansion should now also have up-to-date
areacheck data.

-Kereth Midknight

The derencor outpost, borales cemetary and danowyr army should now also
have up-to-date areacheck data.

-Kereth Midknight

Gnomevale, the Sulphur Devil Pools and the Drow Caves should now also have
up-to-date areacheck data.

-Kereth Midknight

The kobold caves, petting zoo and Haelis's manor should now also have
up-to-date areacheck data.

-Kereth Midknight

The mother worm area, the petrified forest and the Pyramid of Tep-Ho-Tep
(Part 2) should now also have up-to-date areacheck data.

-Kereth Midknight

All other Pyramid of Tep-ho-Tep areas and Siggura's Excavation should now
also have up-to-date areacheck data.

-Kereth Midknight

Argoi fish, bald-eyed sluuthirs and banana worm bread found on Crypt should
now provide more realistic levels of nutrition and a more realistic market
value.

-Kereth Midknight

The dead beetles found on crypt should also have a more realistic
nutritional value. The valid targets for banana worm bread (when found on
crypt) and bald-eyed sluuthirs have also been expanded, and dead beetles
and banana worm bread (when found on crypt) should have more detailed
descriptions in the future.

-Kereth Midknight

Between typos, descriptions, ids, cash and nutrient values, the blackfish
and blood lampreys found on Crypt should be somewhat improved in the
future.

-Kereth Midknight

The blue fish sometimes found on Crypt should now have more detailed
descriptions and a more realistic weight, nutritional value and market
value.

-Kereth Midknight

The brass knuckles had similar issues to the geode gloves. However, the mob
they were on was of unsufficient level to support the effect they were
providing, so the effect could not be adjusted in that context and has
instead been removed. The cost allocated to the effect was astonishingly
little, but all value that was assigned in this way has been reassigned to
other stats.

-Kereth Midknight

The brimstone crabs sometimes found on Crypt should now have a more
realistic nutritional and market value.

-Kereth Midknight

The brown anglers sometimes found on Crypt should now have more realistic
nutritional and market values, as well as being slightly easier to target.

-Kereth Midknight

The carrots sometimes found on Crypt should now be comparable in quality
(and basically everything else) to their Perdow brethren.

-Kereth Midknight

The cheese sometimes found on Crypt should now be comparable in quality
(and basically everything else) to its Perdow equivalent.

-Kereth Midknight

The clam meat sometimes found on Crypt should now be comparable in quality
(and basically everything else) to its Perdow brethren.

-Kereth Midknight

The clinger turtles sometimes found on Crypt should have a less abysmal
nutritional value for their considerable mass. They should also have better
wrapping, slightly less typoed descriptions in the future and a more
respectable shop value.

-Kereth Midknight

The levellock of Ballach has been raised to lvl 20. The boss fight
difficulty should also be less random in the future.

~Nerina

An oversight with the skull puppet was causing the special attack to do
more than it should. This has been corrected.

-Kereth Midknight

The crab meat sometimes found on Crypt should have a less biased
description in the future, as well as a slightly more generous market value
by weight.

-Kereth Midknight

The crystal coral sometimes found on Crypt should now have a more
appropriate nutritional value for its weight.

-Kereth Midknight

The demon fish sometimes found on Crypt should now have a more appropriate
nutritional value for their weight. They should also have slightly tidier
descriptions in the future.

-Kereth Midknight

The following item has received minor stat update to comply with revised
equipment standards.

wicked looking bone crossbow

~Nerina

The fatfish sometimes found on Crypt should now have a more appropriate
nutritional value for their weight. They should also have very slightly
lengthier descriptions in the future.

-Kereth Midknight

A smoothtalking bardly lout like Koskus Tykfel should no longer be treated
as a mindless, shambling zombie for the purposes of skills and spells.

-Kereth Midknight

The following items had bonuses removed at some point (possibly before
being added to the game), resulting in their being below spec for the mobs
that provide them. A portion of those bonuses have been added back in order
to bring them to par:

Senior geomancer robe
Earth Fury

-Kereth Midknight

The flour beetles sometimes found on Crypt should have a more realistic
nutritional value in the future.

-Kereth Midknight

The gnargs sometimes found on Crypt should provide a more realistic amount
of nutrition in the future.

-Kereth Midknight

The following items have received minor stat updates to comply with revised
equipment standards.

lucky brooch
a black feather cloak
a set of black lenses
a Rainbow shell necklace
Tyrfing, the black blade
a red tail sheathe

~Nerina

The lava crabs sometimes found on Crypt should now provide a more realistic
level of nutrition.

-Kereth Midknight

The lightfish sometimes found on Crypt should have more detailed
descriptions and more realistic nutritional values in the future.

-Kereth Midknight

The lobster meat sometimes found on Crypt already had a realistic level of
nutritional value for its weight. It has acquired a better description,
however, and a more appropriate market value.

-Kereth Midknight

Gold and ivory bracelets should now have weights more befitting their
slots/bulk.

-Kereth Midknight

The black dress pants should no longer register as noname under certain
circumstances.

-Kereth Midknight

The same should also be true of the black suit jacket.

-Kereth Midknight

The dead maggots sometimes found on Crypt should have more detailed
descriptions in the future.

-Kereth Midknight

The diamond and opal bracelet should now have a weight more befitting its
slots/bulk.

-Kereth Midknight

Pentagrams of Malbowges should no longer do weird things in response to
base item changes regarding what is and isn't not saved over boot.
Pentagrams that got labeled as the owner's name in lowercase letters won't
automatically lose that label as a result of this (although you can remove
it on your own if you really want to), but future changes won't get messed
up by the pentagram's code.

-Kereth Midknight

The following Crypt items were broken in some way or another by the fix
that made labels stay on armor over boot:

Pentagrams (locked and unlocked)
All items from random bonecourt citizens

These should be fixed. Existing pentagrams will survive. If there are
existing random drop bonecourt citizen items, I suspect they will not. I'm
sorry.

-Kereth Midknight

At request, any piece of paper from the Bonecourt or equivalent can now be
targetted as "letter".

-Kereth Midknight

The mealworms sometimes found on Crypt should now have a more realistic
nutritional and shop value.

-Kereth Midknight

The mud dippers sometimes found on crypt have had their descriptions
cleaned up a bit. They should also no longer have a nuttional value only
slightly above air.

-Kereth Midknight

The mushroom surprises sometimes found on Crypt should now be on par with
those already found on Perdow.

-Kereth Midknight

Wild mushrooms found on Crypt should have much more detailed descriptions
and more substantial nutritional values in the future.

Unless it's the poisonous kind. Those just have new descriptions.

-Kereth Midknight

The oysters sometimes found on Crypt should have more realistic weights,
more substancial levels of nutrition and more detailed descriptions in the
future.

-Kereth Midknight

The red fish sometimes found on Crypt should have more detailed and
accurate descriptions. They should also fill you up more than a small
cracker when eaten.

-Kereth Midknight

The roaches sometimes found on Crypt should have more realistic weights and
more detailed descriptions.

-Kereth Midknight

As interesting as it might be, in some ways, to have mobs escaping their
areas, having aggro boss mobs potentially running across idling players in
otherwise safe locations on the other side of the MUD is -definitely- not
an intended mechanic.

Accordingly, I think I've finally managed to work out some of the bugs in a
certain mob's running around code, which would sometimes result in that mob
fleeing through portals or otherwise exiting the area in which it was
assigned. The individual in question should move around a little more
intelligently in the future, in general, and should no longer take
advantage of player-created exits in its haste to escape.

-Kereth Midknight

The rock lobsters sometimes found on Crypt should now be targetable as
things like "lobster." They should also have a higher nutritional value
than before.

-Kereth Midknight

The custom jewelry shop in the Bone Court appears to be offline.
Considering it took so long to come to my attention, there haven't been
many people trying to use it anyway. Still, I advise you to hold off on
attempting to get jewelry designed for the time being, until an admin can
assist me with the underlying problem.

-Kereth Midknight

Having too many copies of a certain item in your inventory will no longer
cause the quest to function improperly.

~Nerina

A certain door in the Drow caves shouldn't be locked again after you pass
through it.

~Nerina

The store called "Blometh" has updated its stock somewhat. Note that this
does not add any new items to the game or remove any from it, just updates
where certain items are available.

-Kereth Midknight

The rootworm beetle dip sometimes found on Crypt should now have a more
realistic nutritional value for its weight and contents.

-Kereth Midknight

The rumfish sometimes found on Crypt have likewise left the ranks ofthose
foods which weigh a lot but leave you feeling strangely empty when you eat
them. Its description has been cleaned up slightly as well.

-Kereth Midknight

The dead snakes sometimes found on Crypt should now actually be larger than
the dead slugs sometimes found in the same area. This similarity in weights
was accidental, and was neither intended as a commentary on the average
size of Crypt slugs, nor on the average size of its snakes.

-Kereth Midknight

Note: Balancing the hunting skill (and by extension the chunt race power
and similarly fishing and rfish) hangs on a proper treatment of the
produced food. Since I'm almost done with Crypt food, I'm finishing those
up, then moving on to the food specifically produced by those skills on
other worlds. Only after that will the skills get the same treatment as the
others.

The dead slugs found on Crypt should now have a more detailed description,
as well as a more realistic (for foot long dead slugs) weight and
nutritional value.

-Kereth Midknight

The dead snakes sometimes found on Crypt should have more detailed
descriptions in the future.

-Kereth Midknight

Some more Crypt food has been updated, including dead spiders, snake rounds
and spook fish. All of these have gained better descriptions, the spiders
and spook fish have gained nutritional value (massively in the case of the
spook fish), and the snake rounds got just a tad heavier.

-Kereth Midknight

The stink fish, thin fish and whitefish sometimes found on Crypt have all
been updated. In general, descriptions have become more detailed or just
less typoed and monetary and nutritional values have increased. One of them
also got heavier.

-Kereth Midknight

The dead worms sometimes found on crypt should have more detailed
descriptions and a higher nutritional value.

-Kereth Midknight

The zombie fish sometimes found on crypt should have slightly cleaned up
descriptions and a higher nutritional value.

-Kereth Midknight

(This concludes work on Crypt food)

Curiously enough, the rocks found on Crypt overworld do not count as "Crypt
food," and thus will not appear when, for example, casting create food
while on Crypt. Don't ask what they do count as. Seriously.

The rocks seem already balanced and appropriate in most respects. They have
been given more detailed descriptions and left otherwise unchanged.

-Kereth Midknight

Raziul, of the Igneous General Store, has caught wind of his off-world
counterpart trying to capitalize on the latest craze in carrying stuff.
Unimpressed by the Perdow-style attempts to handle heavy loads, Razuil has
cut a deal with the local mining suppliers, in an attempt to show people
what a "real" container looks like. His solution may not be as conveniently
portable as the Perdow option, but it accomplishes a lot with much more
cost-effective materials.

-Kereth Midknight

The skeleton shopkeeper of the Borales general store has heard of the
Igneous store's attempt to provide containers and scoffed.

"Cost efficient? Hah! Why, MY supplier has loads of empty containers on
hand, and he can't seem to give 'em away! You want a cheap? Look to the
skeleton shopkeep! 'We'll unearth deals that other people are dying for!'"

-Kereth Midknight

Tocopoco boogah woogah, proprietor of Ghuds, the Bone Court general store,
has likewise responded to the latest container crisis, and he has done so
with the usual good business sense that typifies the proprietors of the
Bone Court marketplace.

This is to say that he now offers a container for sale, albeit one that is
not particularly large, nor especially cost or weight efficient. In fact,
if there is any redeeming quality to his contribution, it is only the fact
that his container will, at least, hold water.

-Kereth Midknight

Many if not all of the lesser devils in the sulphur pools were suffering
from the Gem Bug(tm). This has now been corrected. Their gems should be
significantly more valuable in the future.

-Kereth Midknight

(This event "starts on Crypt" so I'm putting this here)

Numerous items from the Army of Darkness event had special ID info written
for them, but it was applied in a way that didn't show up with the identify
and greater identify spells, leaving people ignorant of the relevant lore,
theme and sometimes special commands available on many of the objects.
These should all now be corrected. Affected items include:

Bone armor
Bone halberd
Bone helm
Bracers
Brooch
Claw
Flail
Flesh armor
Goop gun
Havoc
Heka
Living tattoo
Malice
Red armor
Red cloak
Robes
Sash
Scarab armor
Skullstaff
Web shield

(Names in the above list may not perfectly reflect the actual names of the
items. My apologies.)

-Kereth Midknight

(This event "starts on Crypt" so I'm putting this here)

The living tattoo, flesh armor and purple robes from the aforementioned
event should no longer give bonuses to the now out-of-game "mastery of
necromancy" skill.

-Kereth Midknight

(This event "starts on Crypt" so I'm putting this here)

The bone halberd should no longer cause a sensitive mind error the first
time it is dropped each boot.

-Kereth Midknight

Given the ongoing complications in arranging the invasion of the Bone
Court, the Sikkaran guilds have decided to intervene in matters at least
somewhat more directly. Specifically, they have collectively announced that
anyone found exterminating undead residents of the Bone Court will find
themselves "favored in the eyes of Sikkar."

Public sentiments regarding this announcement largely agree that anyone
expecting something more tangible to come from these guilds will likely be
disappointed.

-Kereth Midknight

Annoyed by the continued intervention of the Sikkarans in their
neighborhood and sympathetic to the plight of their old creations, the
necromancer guild has made a similar declaration: "Anyone found killing a
would-be invader of the Bone Court will be counted a friend of the
necromancer guild."

-Kereth Midknight

The instruments sold in the Bone Court marketplace were displaying their
own names in lieu of the proper commands to operate them. As the command
and name were usually the same, this wasn't a problem for most, but those
who didn't match could be difficult to figure out how to operate (for
simplicity of command parsing, all instruments were assigned one word base
commands, so instruments like "double-necked lute" were assigned commands
like "double-lute").

This has now been corrected. The descriptions of the items should now
indicate the actual syntax in all cases, not just in some cases.

-Kereth Midknight

Demons wielding Kamatahs should no longer fail to depart properly when
their timer runs out.

-Kereth

The fleshy pups sometimes slain on Crypt should have significantly higher
nutritional value in the future.

-Kereth Midknight

Locals on Crypt have discovered a new food source. The tunnel hyrax is a
small, meaty creature that makes its home in the caverns of Crypt. While it
spends most of its time burrowed in the rock, they "surface" in the larger
tunnels from time to time in search of edible fungi to gather and store in
their lairs.

Techniques for hunting the hyrax have not yet become common knowledge, but
you may from time to time encounter a dead hyrax during your adventures
across the planet.

Encouraged by the discovery of the edible (to some races) hyrax, several
local sportspersons have traveled to Crypt and jointly formed the planet's
first Subterranean Wild Game Society (a name that some find more appealing
than the group's actual activities). The SWGS has made some headway in
identifying new possible types of edible (depending on what you think is
food) wildlife, including the rock worm and a variety of large bat.

Their hunting techniques remain, thusfar, a closely guarded secret, but
travelers to Crypt may now discover the results of their hunts among the
planets other treasures.

-Kereth Midknight

The SWGS (Subterranean Wild Game Society) of Crypt has announced another
pair of fascinating discoveries. Those interested in hunting the moonstone
armadillo or the oddly-named 'human salamander,' can… well, they can
keep dreaming, because the society has still declined to release their
newly innovated hunting techniques to the general public.

Those wishing to sample these rare creatures, however, may just be
fortunate enough to encounter the carcasse of one during their journeys
around the planet.

Code from a certain area to "capture the souls of gifted ones" should no
longer attempt to capture the souls of things such as necromancer undead
pets. Furthermore, it should no longer bug out as a result of trying to
take the soul from something that doesn't have a soul. Furthermore still,
if these fixes are insufficient somehow, several sequential bugs further
down that line that would otherwise follow from this first bug have also
been fixed.

May this never happen again.

-Kereth Midknight

Captured souls were explicitly coded to always be evil. Unfortunately, in
mimicking the race/guild setup of the individual whose soul they were, some
default settings could slip through, such as if the individual was a member
of a good-aligned race or belonged to a good-aligned guild, overriding the
intended alignment settings.

This should now be corrected. The intended evil alignment settings on the
mobs should now be correctly applied in all cases, not just some/most of
them.

-Kereth Midknight

Craftable items obtained from mother worm or the surrounding area should no
longer lose threaded status each boot or be rejected by chests, in keeping
with changes to base crafting item code.

-Kereth Midknight

Shadowclone shouldn't have a chance to produce error messages on death,
claiming that Shadowlord doesn't exist, simply from being hit by an attack
with too many damage types.

~Nerina

Ambassador Khetah should no longer be capable of ordering artillery strikes
on the party members of his foes who are trying to keep a safe distance
from the battle.

-Kereth Midknight

When it's sports time, Khetah should be a bit more selective in who he
chooses to play catch with. Specifically, he should no longer attmept to
play catch with people who are unable to return the ball.

-Kereth Midknight

The following level locks on Crypt have been adjusted (Note: If they're not
on this list, they've been missed. Minlocks are not being observed at this
time. If a lock here is listed as higher than the maximum level lock, it
has been automatically unlocked):

Autognome Factory 20->25
Ballach 20->30
Boelir 20->30
Temple of Unuok 40->50
Borales Cemetary 40->55
Derencor Outpost 35->30 (Yes, that one went down)
Kobold Caves 20->20
Moldy Cave 15->15
Haelis's Manor 20->30
Siggura's Excavation 20->30
Waterworks 30->45
Hunt the Wumpus 20->30
Utopia 20->20

-Kereth Midknight

While there may be no honor among thieves, certain bands of tomb robbers,
in a certain not-large pyramid, should, at least, no longer stoop to firing
attack spells at, or ignoring the peril of, their looting companions.

-Kereth, "comma-separated parenthetical," Midknight

It was not supposed to be possible to get a stone cube. During some cleanup
back in 2015 or so, the code preventing this was lost. My bad. In order to
keep with the original design and to avoid some harmless but generally
brow-raising weirdness that could result, it has been returned to this
state. My apologies.

-Kereth Midknight

In case it wasn't clear, by "get," I mean the command of that name. Not
saying it was supposed to be impossible or now is impossible to have access
to said cube. You just can't pick it up anymore.

-Kereth Midknight

Some misaligned exits in the waterworks area have been fixed (along with
various other things around Crypt/Perdow that aren't worth writing news
about. While I'm at it, most "standard" weapon specials only display
messages to the wielder and the victim, so not seeing specials when your
pet wields something unless it actually attacks you for some reason is
Not-a-Bug(tm). Oh, and having a nervous system doesn't mean one has a mind.
You can't phobia a jellyfish, for example.)

-Kereth Midknight

The left giant bangle should have more robust targetting options in the
future.

-Kereth Midknight

With certain careful timing, it was apparently still possible for Ferdinand
to decide to hop into dimensional portals, albeit in a way that usually
involved him hopping right back through the again, back and forth like an
amateur circus performer who only knows that one jumping through the hoop
trick and is determined to make the most of it, then running away normally
afterward.

He should no longer do that.

-Kereth Midknight

If you happen to steal a certain horse, you should no longer be able to
store it overnight in a public stable.

-Kereth Midknight

The said horse also had a problem where its ownership would sometimes not
register right under certain circumstances. It should be have more normally
in that respect in the future.

-Kereth Midknight

Ambassador Khetah's pursuit of his highest duties should should now be
taken with more measured steps and clearer intentions.

-Kereth "Super Clear Newsposts" Midknight

The effects of [ILLEGIBLE] should no longer be thwarted exclusively by a
certain psi spell but also by other spells that are functionally the same
outside of that exclusion. This was an oversight on my part.

-Kereth Midknight

The kusari-fundo was accidentally set to be the same weight as the
lightweight kama, even though it was supposed to be heavier, being a long,
chain-based bludgeon, rather than a cubit long wooden rod with a short
blade. This has been corrected.

-Kereth Midknight

"Over a chasm" rooms on the Crypt overworld should now have the proper
terrain setting.

-Kereth Midknight

"In a chasm" and "overhead stalactites" rooms on the Crypt overworld should
now have the proper terrain setting.

-Kereth Midknight

The newbie-shaft on Crypt should now determine whether a given person can
enter them based on that individual's level, not the level of the person
who entered the movement command. High level parties can no longer use the
newbie transport by having a newbie lead them through it.

-Kereth Midknight

A certain other vial should now be tastable by those with the skill to do
so.

-Kereth Midknight

Players who were present and in the party for the whole Unouk Quest were
not all getting credit for doing the quest, as the server was clearing all
the records of who participated in the kill as soon as the first person was
awarded the quest. This has now been corrected, and all who participate in
the full quest should be credited with the lq at the end.

-Kereth Midknight

A certain quest item does not magically multiply and/or lose parts when you
attempt to assamble it. Feel free to continue attaching the parts in the
order of your choice.

-Nerina

Selrac now answers questioning etc skills.

-Nerina

Shoppy, the old peg-leg Bard, should now actually respond to certain inputs
that he was intended to respond to but wasn't able to. He should also
actually stop being in places where he has made it clear he no longer is,
when he indicates such.

-Kereth "#nospoilers" Midknight

Certain "holy lasers" should be more limited in their range in the future.

-Kereth Midknight

Party members of individuals getting escorted to a certain place should no
longer see the escort taking place, even when they are not present.

-Kereth Midknight

For complicated reasons, which were badly documented at the time, it used
to be very difficult to create a mob that was both humanoid and nonflesh.
This has since been corrected, but the gargoyles in the temple of unuok
predated this, and they were trying their best to be humanoid and nonflesh.
The way this was attempted resulted in nonhumanoid and nonflesh beings.

I know gargoyles in general are not a nonflesh race, but I guess these ones
are supposed to be? I don't know the area that well, to be honest, but for
the time being, I have patched them up to behave as their code was trying
to make them behave, as both nonflesh and humanoid.

-Kereth Midknight

Further gargoyles in the same area have recieved a similar treatment.

-Kereth Midknight

Clinger turtles should no longer register as "a food" in various messages,
instead of their actual name.

-Kereth Midknight

Miyna should no longer use custom ask code which is incompatible with some
other game functions (such as questioning).

-Kereth Midknight

The entrance to the drow caves should now have a valid terrain setting.

-Kereth Midknight

The wormtooth should now be an appropriate weight for its size, weapon
type, etc.
